When Disney princess Alba Rico approached us to be a brand ambassador, we were honored and excited to work with her. This beautiful young Actress/Singer is best known for portraying Natalia Vidal on the Disney Channel Original TV Series "Violetta."
We had such a good time sitting (well, zooming actually) with this gorgeous soul and learned so much about the real Alba, her career, challenges, spirituality, and so much more.
What blew us away was how clear she was early in life. She knew she wanted to be an actress when she was four years old, but suffering from shyness as a little girl, her dream and personality would certainly clash at times, but her courage would prevail, and a blossoming career would be in the works, unbeknownst to her.
She would grow as an actress on the theater stage, and in 2010, Alba received a Best Actress Award at the Algeria Festival for her role in the play "The Gas Station." The feeling she would get on stage is indescribable.
As a talented writer of plays and monologues, she would star in various plays in Spain, and that is how she was discovered and cast as Natalia Vidal in Disney's "Violetta."
We laughed when she said that her character Naty is awkward and clumsy, mimicking her in real life. We found that hard to believe, considering her character sang and danced a lot on her hit TV show.
(Alba's first language is Spanish, not English, and we wanted to honor her words and not alter the interview.)
Let's Get to Her Amazing & Inspirational Interview
K&L: What were you like when you were a little girl? Did you dream about an acting career?
AR: I used to be super shy. I've been working on it all of my life because I was clear I would be an actress since I was four, and my dream was always stronger than my shyness. Art is my life. I can't imagine my life without it. It's a difficult life, I know, I've been close to giving up many times, but when I'm on the stage or in front of a camera, everything makes sense.
K&L: Where did you learn to sing?
AR: I didn't (hahaha). I don't have a fantastic voice, but I know how to grab the audience's attention, and I know how to tell stories.
K&L: Did singing come naturally to you?
AR: No, singing used to be difficult for me. When I started working for Disney, they helped me a lot by giving me singing lessons, and they were very patient with me. They knew it was my weak point, but I was excited about my part, and I worked really hard and listened to my singing coach.
K&L: Where did you learn to dance?
AR: My aunt was a ballet dancer and a teacher. She had been teaching me ballet and flamenco (Spanish dance) since I was four.
K&L: Did dancing come naturally to you because you learned at an early age?
AR: I love to dance alone in my bedroom or a club with friends, but when I have to learn a choreography, I have to rehearse a lot. When I wasn't recording, I used to be in the rehearsal room practicing choreographies over and over, until I nailed it.
K&L: What was your first acting gig?
AR: It was in a theater play when I was in High School, with a small theater group in my town. Those first performances helped me with the decision to study and pursue an Acting degree. I have been studying acting since I was fourteen and graduated with a Bachelor's degree.
K&L: What was your first singing and dancing gig?
AR: It was in the theater play "The gas station" where I won an award and was so overwhelmed and proud. I represented Spain in a big contest in Quito (Ecuador), I was in the University, and for my partners and me, this was a big opportunity. I really enjoy it!!
K&L: Tell us about "Violetta." How exciting.
AR: Violetta was the first co-production between Disney Channel Latin America and Disney Channel Europe. After the big reception from the audience in Latin America, Italy, Spain, France, and Israel, Violetta was aired in Europe, including Russia, Central Europe, East Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
AR: Violetta changed my life/ I moved to Buenos Aires (Argentina) to work for six years. It was my first big job. I found another big family there, and I learned a lot about my profession. I was so blessed to travel worldwide; I met amazing people and found out that dreams can come true. I hope anyone who reads this will follow their dreams too.
K&L: Tell us about your movies Lope Enamorado (TV Movie)
AR: It's about the love story between Lope de Vega and Marta de Nevares. Lope was one of the greatest Spanish theatre writers. I played the role of his daughter, and it was a wonderful experience. I traveled to the Spanish golden age.
K&L: What is it like having 1 million followers on your social media?
AR: I still can't believe it. It's a big gift, and at the same time, it is a big responsibility. I usually take care of my posts. I want to express a positive message to my followers.
I want to send them a self-love message. That is why I love Karma and Luck because your products always have such fantastic energy and remind us to believe in ourselves.
K&L: When did you realize you had made it as an actress?
AR: One day, at the airport, they asked me to complete a form for travel. In the question of a profession, I wrote an actress for the first time. I was earning money with my work, and I couldn't believe it, I was an actress.
K&L: We are so honored to have you as an Ambassador. Tell us why you were so attracted to Karma and Luck jewelry.
AR: Me too!! Thanks for this present. Karma and Luck is a beautiful brand with a powerful message. I feel very identified with that message.
K&L: Do you feel the energy of the gemstones? Do they help you.
AR: Of course, since I was a child, the gemstone has helped me in my life. I am a very spiritual person. I believe in the energy of the Universe, and gemstones contain a lot of power.
K&L: Do you practice your spirituality? Yoga, meditation, prayer?
AR: I practice yoga and meditation every day. I really need it. It is my moment. I can't be for others if I'm not first for myself.
K&L: Share your secret with us on how you stay so fit. Many would love to know your exercises.
AR: I discovered Ashtanga yoga some years ago. And my body has changed a lot. I really love it!!!
K&L: What's in your future, Alba? More singing, dancing and acting?
AR: I love acting. I hope to be in front of a camera for many years, discover new characters, and enjoy their lives.
K&L: What do you have coming up.
AR: I can't talk about future projects, but ….. I hope life continues surprising to me. I wish to work in the USA; it's my big goal.
K&L: How do you challenge yourself?
AR: Loving my light and my darkness. Proving myself every day and moving away from my comfort zone, for example, answering this interview in English.
K&L: Give our readers some words of wisdom on creating a great career for themselves, as you have. What is your secret? :)
AR: Everybody has difficult moments, I have them too, but you have to believe in yourself and follow your dreams.
You are unique, don't forget it. Don't compare yourself to the others, and if your goal changes along the way, don't worry about that; everything is perfect.

Cuando la princesa Alba Rico se nos acercó para ser una de las embajadoras de nuestra marca, nos sentimos muy honrados y emocionados de trabajar con ella. Esta joven actriz/cantante es mejor conocida por su papel de Natalia Vidal en la serie orginal de Disney “Violetta”.
Pasamos un buen rato platicando con esta maravillosa persona y aprendimos mucho de la Alba real, su carrera, sus retos, su espiritualidad y muchas cosas más.
Lo que nos impresionó, más que nada, fue que ella tenía muy claro que quería ser actriz desde los 4 años pero como era muy tímida, su sueño y su personalidad entraban en conflicto en ocasiones. Aún así, su valentía era más fuerte y esto ayudaría a que su carrera floreciera en el futuro.
Alba creció como una estrella de teatro y, en 2010, recibió el premio a la Mejor Actriz en el Festival Algeria por su papel en la obra “The Gas Station”. El sentimiento que sintió en el escenario es indescriptible.
Como una talentosa escritora de obras y monólogos, Alba participó en varias obras en España, y así fue como la descubrieron y le pidieron que audicionara para el papel de Natalia Vidal en la película “Violetta”. Nos reímos mucho cuando nos dijo que su personaje de Naty es un poco torpe y extraña, casi como ella en la vida real. Eso se nos hizo un poco difícil de creer, si consideramos que su personaje cantaba y bailaba mucho en su exitoso programa de televisión.
Empecemos con esta entrevista tan increíble e inspiradora.
K&L: ¿Cómo eras de pequeña? ¿Siempre soñaste con una carrera como actriz?
AR: Yo era súper tímida. He estado trabajando en eso toda mi vida porque yo tenía claro que sería actriz desde los 4 años, y mi sueño siempre fue más fuerte que mi timidez. El arte es mi vida, no puedo imaginar mi vida sin él. Sé que es una vida difícil, he estado por darme por vencida muchas veces, pero cuando estoy en el escenario o frente a las cámaras, todo tiene sentido.
Gracias, Alba Rico, por tu tiempo y tu energía positiva. Nos sentimos muy honrados de tenerte como nuestra embajadora, y te mandamos mucho amor.
K&L: ¿En dónde aprendiste a cantar?
AR: No lo hice (jajaja). No tengo una voz tan maravillosa, pero sé cómo tener la atención del público, y sé cómo contar historias.
K&L: ¿Cantar fue algo natural para ti?
AR: No, cantar fue difícil para mí. Cuando empecé a trabajar para Disney, ellos me ayudaron mucho con lecciones de canto, y fueron muy pacientes conmigo. Ellos sabían que era uno de mis puntos débiles pero yo estaba muy emocionada con mi papel y trabajé muy duro y le pusé mucha atención a mi coach de canto.
K&L: ¿En dónde aprendiste a bailar?
A&R: Mi tía era bailarina de ballet y maestra. Ella me enseñó ballet y flamenco desde los 4 años.
K&L: ¿Bailar fue algo que te salió natural porque lo aprendiste tan pequeña?
AR: Amo bailar sola en mi cuarto o en una discoteca con mis amigos, pero cuando tengo que aprenderme una coreografía, tengo que ensayar mucho. Cuando no estaba grabando, solía estar en el salón de danza ensayando las coreografías una y otra vez hasta que las dominaba.
K&L: ¿Cuál fue tu primer papel como actriz?
AR: Fue una obra de teatro en la escuela, con un un pequeño grupo de teatro en mi ciudad. Esas primeras actuaciones me ayudaron a tomar la decisión de estudiar actuación. He estado estudiando actuación desde los 14 años y me gradué con un título.
K&L: ¿Cuál fue tu primer papel cantando y bailando?
AR: Fue en la obra de teatro “The gas station”, en donde gané un premio. Estaba demasiado orgullosa y abrumada al mismo tiempo. Representé a España en un concurso en Quito (Ecuador), estaba en la universidad y fue una gran oportunidad. Lo disfruté mucho, de verdad.
K&L: Cuéntanos de “Violetta”. ¡Qué emocionante!
AR: Violetta fue la primera coproducción entre Disney Latinoamérica y Disney Europa. Después de una gran aceptación por la audiencia en Latinoamérica, Italia, España, Francia e Israel, Violetta salió al aire en Europa, incluyendo Rusia, Europa Central, Europa de Este, África, el Caribe y el Medio Oriente.
Violetta me cambió la vida. Me mudé a Buenos Aires (Argentina) a trabajar por 6 años, fue mi primer trabajo. Encontré una gran familia allá y aprendí mucho de mi profesión. Fui tan afortunada de poder viajar por todo el mundo conociendo personas increíbles y me di cuenta que los sueños sí se hacen realidad. Espero que cualquier persona que lea esto, también se atreva a seguir sus sueños.
K&L: Cuéntanos de tus películas Lope Enamorado
AR: Se trata de la historia de amor entre Lope de Vega y Marta de Nevares. Lope fue uno de los escritores españoles de teatro más grandes. Yo hice el rol de su hija, y fue una experiencia maravillosa, viajé al Siglo de Oro español
K&L: ¿Qué se siente tener 1M de seguidores en redes sociales?
AR: Todavía no puedo creerlo. Es un gran regalo, y al mismo tiempo, una gran responsabilidad.
Me gusta cuidar lo que publico porque quiero compartir un mensaje positivo a mis seguidores. Quiero enviarles un poco de amor propio. Por eso me encanta Karma and Luck, porque sus productos tienen una energía fantástica y nos recuerdan creer en nosotros mismos.
K&L: ¿Cuándo te diste cuenta que lo habías logrado como actriz?
AR: Un día en el aeropuerto me pidieron que completara un formulario para viajar. En la pregunta de profesión, yo escribí actriz por primera vez. Estaba ganando dinero con mi trabajo y no podía creerlo, era una actriz.
K&L: Estamos muy honrados de tenerte como embajadora. Cuéntanos por qué te atrajo la joyería de Karma and Luck.
AR: ¡Yo también! Gracias por este regalo. Karma and Luck es una marca hermosa con un mensaje poderoso. Me siento muy identificada con ese mensaje.
K&L: ¿Sientes la energía de las gemas? ¿Te han ayudado?
AR: Claro, desde que era pequeña, la gema me ha ayudado en mi vida. Soy una persona muy espiritual, creo en la energía del universo, y las gemas contienen mucho poder.
K&L: ¿Practicas tu espiritualidad con yoga, meditación o haciendo oraciones?
AR: Practico yoga y medito todos los días. Lo necesito mucho, es mi momento. No puedo estar para los demás si no estoy primero para mí.
K&L: Compártenos tu secreto para estar tan en forma, a muchos les encantaría saber qué ejercicios haces.
AR: Descubrí la práctica de yoga Ashtanga hace algunos años y mi cuerpo ha cambiado mucho desde entonces. ¡Me encanta!
K&L: ¿Qué está en tu futuro, Alba? ¿Más canto, baile y actuación?
AR: Amo la actuación. Espero estar frente a las cámaras por muchos años más, descubrir nuevos personajes y disfrutar sus vidas.
K&L: ¿Qué proyectos tienes en puerta?
AR: No puedo hablar de futuros proyectos, pero espero que la vida me siga sorprendiendo. Deseo trabajar en Estados Unidos, esa es mi gran meta.
K&L: ¿Cómo te retas a mejorar?
AR: Amando mi luz y mi oscuridad, poniéndome a prueba todos los días, saliendo de mi zona de confort contestando esta entrevista en inglés, por ejemplo.
K&L: Dale a nuestros lectores unas palabras de sabiduría para crear una gran carrera para ellos mismos, así como tu lo has hecho para ti. ¿Cuál es tu secreto?
AR: Todos tenemos momentos difíciles, pero tienes que creer en ti mismo y seguir tus sueños. Eres único, no lo olvides. No te compares con los demás. Si tu objetivo cambia en el camino, no te preocupes, todo es perfecto.
